NMI Lesson featuring Mexico
Can’t go with team to Mexico, but want to learn more about Missions in Mexico, where E TN “Valentines for Jesus” funds have been invested?  HAVE A MEXICAN FIESTA, with NMI Lesson about Nazarenes in Mexico, go to

http://etnmi.org/resources/

under “NMI Central Lessons”.  These lessons are based  on information about countries presented in NMI Central.  I loved developing the lesson about Mexico, and I especially appreciate the excellent lessons, at the same site,  developed by our E TN NMI Mission Education coordinator, Anita Adkins.  Also from our E TN District NMI Website:  NMI LEADERS CAN ACCESS INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL “KIDS MISSION JAMBOREE: CELEBRATING VALENTINES FOR JESUS IN MEXICO” ACTIVITIES AT

Retired Links Missionary Geneva Silvernail Ministers to Fascinated Kids!
From Alice Carey, Lenoir City 1st:  “We had Geneva Silvernail speak to our children’s Sunday School class yesterday for our Links emphasis this month.  She told a wonderful story, taught us about Swaziland, taught us a song in Zula, and showed us where she was a missionary.  The children listened well, although we have some with special needs.  She was excellent!  In the next class my great granddaughter gave her heart totally to Jesus.  She is 6, and Geneva told the class that, at 6 years old, she decided to be a missionary.  She also intertwined the idea of giving your heart to Jesus. She is wonderful!”

TWO VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS – A WORLD APART
BOTH MAKE A LASTING DIFFERENCE IN THEIR WORLD!
Kids at Chapman’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene raised $1,164.34 in their VBS offering for Food Ministry Truck
Kids at Chapman’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene raised $1,164.34 in their VBS offering for much needed repair (estimated cost = $25,000)  on one of the two 25 ft. box trucks at our district’s Nazarene Compassionate Ministry, FAMILY FOOD MINISTRY, housed in Tullahoma Westside Church of the Nazarene. Both trucks have been on the road at least 6 days a week collecting & transporting food…so having one truck not working is a real problem for the ministry.
Besides providing food  for over 1,500 persons weekly, the food ministry does “specials,” like providing food to disaster areas, providing food for the Kids Mission Jamboree at Children’s Camp,Pastors’ & NMI Presidents’ gift bags at assembly.  So far, the ministry has raised $12,157 toward the truck repair, a 10% giving opportunity.  To donate, send check, made out to Family Food Ministy,  to Shirley Statum, 696 Sarvis Branch Road, Estill Springs, TN 37330.

Vacation Bible School for Children in the
Zakarpatska Area of Ukraine

Miklós and Vivien, a young couple from Hungarian District, led a three-week Vacation Bible School for children in the Zakarpatska area of Ukraine, close to the Hungarian border.

In the first two weeks, they welcomed around 40 children and shared about the miracles of Jesus. They also served hot meals each day – which is a help to families in these challenging days of sourcing enough food. The activities also helped the children enjoy time in community and offer hope and light in their current circumstances. Please pray for the Miklós, Vivien and the families who were impacted by this Camp.

E TN NMI has been asked to share the following information with our NMI mailing list.  (Please  note the red text, if you will drop off  at Tullahoma Westside).

“We have been in contact with Rev. David Smith, Rev. William Bonee, and David Statum about items that are currently needed at the Kentucky Mountain Bible College.  After much discussion “our ETNDR will be collecting non-perishable food items to take to Kentucky.

There will be 3 (three) sites where you drop off any non-perishable items collected:  Tullahoma Westside, Southview Community, and Crossville Churches.  If you plan to drop items off at the Crossville Church, anytime Saturday would be best. However, if you need to drop items off before Saturday they will accept them.  FOR FOOD DROP-OFFS AT TULLAHOMA WESTSIDE:  Please avoid Friday,  since that is the day for the weekly FOOD SHARE when over 200 cars will be lined up pulling into the Tullahoma Westside parking  lot for weekly food distribution.
The contact person for each site is as follows: Tullahoma Westside, David Statum, 931-607-5306;  Southview Community, Teresa  Hensley, 423-557-3552; Crossville, William Bonee, 225-910-2782.  If you have any questions about dropping off items, please feel
free to contact the person for your area.
ETNDR plans to take a load of the items collected to KMBC on Tuesday morning around 6:00 a.m.. Please continue to pray for all of  tthose who have been devastated by this disaster.  I’m sure we will be making additional trips to deliver supplies.  I will send out any
updates as they become available.”

THE FIRST, BUT CERTAINLY NOT THE LAST LOAD OF E TN DISTRICT DISASTER RELIEF SUPPLIES IS ALREADY IN KENTUCKY!

Several NMI leaders have already checked with me about starting to make more CCKs. My reply: they could certainly be used, but I believe we may need to wait for lists from our disaster relief team leader, Rev. David Smith, to give us more direction on what is most needed going forward. Certainly, there will be several teams, needing supplies. It will be my honor to keep you posted on what is most needed, and where you can deliver it. Teresa Hodge, ET NMI
FROM PASTOR WILLIAM BONEE, CROSSVILLE CHURCH:
“125 boxes of Crisis Care kits, 3 pallets of water, many cases of diapers and baby wipes, and cleaning supplies from Crossville, Gordonsville, and Greenville Churches were delivered to the area around Kentucky Mountain Bible College. The people of the area were so grateful to receive these items! Thanks so much to East Tennessee Nazarenes for providing these items! Thanks to Crossville Church for allowing your Pastors to rush away after church this morning to get these supplies delivered! Thanks to Jonathan Rutherford for transporting one of those pallets of water from Greenville!”

In response to several requests from E TN District churches,  Judy DeWitt , for Rev. David Smith,  has just sent out forms for those interested in serving  on disaster relief teams. Please check with your pastor if you are interested in  serving on disaster relief team.

WORLD EVANGELISM CHURCH OF EXCELLENCE CERTIFICATES, LIKE THE ONE BELOW,  HAVE BEEN MAILED, WITH GRATITUDE, TO
THESE FIVE CHURCHES

BARFIELD, 5.85%,  CHAPMAN’S CHAPEL, 6.5%,  CROSS STYLE, 7.3%,  HIMESVILLE, 5.72%,  KNOXVILLE HOUSE CHURCH NETWORK, 9.3%

I regret that E TN NMI did not have the wonderful record of WEF payment available before the deadline for submission of pages for the  Assembly  Booklet.
E TN NMI is extremely grateful to these, and the 26 other “World Evangelism Church of Excellence ” churches* for going above the required 5.5% WEF payment, providing for Global Evangelism around the world, and helping to make E TN a “World Evangelism District of Excellence.”

* World Evangelism Churches of Excellence” – Assembly Booklet, page 12

ONLY IN E TN COULD YOU GET AN ASSEMBLY GIFT BAG CONTAINING COUNTRY HAM!
Thanks to David Statum, Director of Family Food Ministry, Official Nazarene Compassionate Ministry Center, at Tullahoma Westside Church, for providing and transporting to NMI Convention at Lee University…150 great gift bags for Pastors & NMI Presidents.
When David learned “Knit Together in Love,” would be Assembly theme, he immediately thought of a woman at his church who knits lovely hats & scarves
to give away to needy persons in the winter time;  she donated 150 of the hand knit hats & scarves for the gift bags.

Then, gift bags were filled with goodies, including packages of country ham, from food ministry!

We loved that our President Emeritus, Betty Patton,  prayed for us throughout the NMI Convention/ District Assembly,
and we loved delivering her Assembly Goody Bag during  the days following assembly!

The 2022 NMI Local President’s Report gave each church this invitation:

“Please share how your church ministered cross-culturally (locally or internationally).
While this is not a requirement, we would love to hear your stories and share them with our district.”
The churches on the attached report took advantage of the invitation and shared. Enjoy reading (exact quotes) what they shared!

THANK GOD, AND E TN NMI LEADERS, FOR A RECORD BREAKING NMI CONVENTION

We received two offerings at 2022 NMI Convention, and broke records for each of them!  Offering for Convention speakers, Rob & Cindy North ($4,065) – Offering for  “E TN Sent” Links missionaries, Joshua & Katie Haun ($6,276)

E TN also set an amazing RECORD  for ALABASTER  – 100% PARTICIPATION BY our  CHURCHES!!!

A Beautiful Tradition Continues….Kieruka Martin blessed us with “My Alabaster Box”  at our

100% ALABASTER PARTICIPATION CELEBRATION

Crisis Care Kits:  based on your  response to inquiry re: number of Crisis Care Kits being brought to district convention (since nearly 300 boxes were collected for refugees from war in Ukraine in April) we only brought one trailer, which could hold 125 boxes,  to the convention.   E TN Churches brought 125 boxes!

Flags:…BIG Thank you to everyone who helped with Flags!

When Scott & Debbie Blair couldn’t come to NMI convention, due to illness, they already had the flags loaded….then, Pastor Sam Woods came to the rescue…brought the flags and had them put up by the time I could learn that he had even arrived!  Thank you, Scott & Debbie for loading, and thank you, Pastor Sam Woods for transporting, unloading, and re-loading / transporting the flags “back home.”
Thanks to EVERYONE who helped with our flags!

More NMI HEROES:  HIMESVILLE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE
When NMI presidents and pastors come to NMI convention, knowing they’ve done all needed to be done to make their church a “MISSION PRIORITY CHURCH”  they expect their church’s name to be on the list of Mission Priority One churches in the assembly booklet.   Our Himesville Church was one of those churches that did all that  made them a Mission Priority One Church (Prayed for Missions, taught about missions, engaged children & youth, and gave at least 5.5% of their income for World Evangelism).  Not only that, but  the Himesville Church gave 5.8% of their income for World Evangelism, making them a World Evangelism Church of Excellencebut I inadvertently omitted their church’s name from those lists in the Assembly Booklet. I was heartsick, but  Pastors Joshua and Katie Crowe & NMI President Alex Clemons were SO gracious, assuring me that they supported, prayed & gave, not for an award, but to serve.  However, I want to set the record straight, and give this deserving church the credit they so deserve.
Thanks be to God for all our wonderful churches!

NEWS WORTH REPEATING:  HOW TO MAKE OUT THE TWO CHECKS NEEDED FOR NMI CONVENTION OFFERING
I’ve heard from several NMI leaders, asking about offerings, and how to make out checks for NMI convention.

EVEN MORE IMPORTANT NEWS:  PRAYER ANSWERED/ PRAYER REQUESTED     In November, Katie Haun asked us to pray for 10 contacts to come to their home in Sofia for Thanksgiving dinner.  You prayed, God answered, Ten came!  Then, you prayed for a weekly Bible study in Sofia, Bulgaria;  God answered prayer.  TODAY,  in the latest “Serving in Sofia” post, we are asked to pray again, for the first Sunday services in Sofia.  Watch the video below, and be challenged and blessed.

UPDATE:  What to Bring to E TN District NMI Convention

We’re grateful to those churches that have contacted us with the number of CCKs they are bringing to assembly, as well as to those churches who brought so many in April for Ukraine, that they’ve chosen not to bring them to assembly.  As of now, we have less than 100 boxes committed.  That means we will only need one trailer, instead of the two we usually have at assembly.  Don Moore will bring the NMI trailer, and E TN District NMI will pay his mileage…..so, there’s no need for a transportation offering!

We  wanted to give our churches a break, so ….so, there will be no  transportation offering!

The only offerings:  Deputation for Rob & Cindy North, our speakers from Africa Nazarene University, and Joshua & Katie Haun, deputation for their  vehicle that will “be big enough for three car seats!  Please, just bring 2 separate checks, made out to E TN District NMI…  Rob North on memo line of one check, Joshua Haun on memo line of the other check.

If “0”, let us know that, too.     Please don’t  bring partial boxes.    We need to know how much transportation we need to provide.  These CCKs will remain on our district until needed for disaster relief, but we still will need to transport them to the Maryville Church, who has generously agreed to  store them for us.
