Newsletter – Oct. 30, 2024

A few weeks before our district W&W trip to Brazil, I read this verse:
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.  Proverbs 16:3

It struck me as so significant that I re-read it daily, added it under my signature on emails I sent.  Those words, from Proverbs, worked through my mind as I prepared for, and lived through, the trip to the Amazon Region in Brazil.

Missionary Igor Vale told me right before the trip that Brazil was experiencing the
hottest, driest weather in history, & that our trip on the Amazon may not happen.

Then he said,  “You guys will arrive in the perfect moment to give hope to our people.”

God was establishing our plans, enabling our team to find joy, even when our long anticipated trip down the Amazon on the Gospel Boat disappeared. We had set aside $1,000 from NMI Silent Auction at  Family Camp to pay the airline fee for the nine 50lb. bags holding the ARC. (Jesus Film Tent)…BUT, DUE TO TRIP LEADER RACHEL REED HAVING SPECIAL AIRLINE POINTS, THE ARC WENT FREE!  The bags are pictured in the church below, ready to take to the interior (jungle) when the Amazon River rises.

The Amazon River was historically low, causing navigation on the Gospel Boat to be impossible.  When we arrived, the boat had already been taken miles up the Amazon,

to be docked where it would be safe.

God had allowed us to deliver the ARC, but we would not get to board the Gospel Boat.  With historically dry, hot weather (at least 105 degrees/80% humidity every day), our project changed dramatically.  The church had access to a huge building, connected by
a small plot of ground with a high wall.  To enter the new facility, we had to crawl down through a hole that had been broken in the brick wall.
That led us to the large open courtyard pictured below. with our DS manning the ladder, scraping & painting.  Instead of grumbling that they didn’t get to board the boat and “cruise the Amazon’, this amazing team “laid down their lives and scraped, sanded and painted HIGH walls in a HUGE structure, for days.  They were exhausted, but knew that God was using them for a “NEW task, one they had not anticipated.  We LOVED the people of the church, & had rich fellowship as we ate the meals of beans, rice and vegetables that they lovingly prepared and ate with us around the long table in the church.  We LOVED the pastor/missionary, Rev. Igor Vale (wearing his Trevecca hat all week)  and District Superintendent, Rev. Damasio Maralis, who always smiled “with his whole face.”
Below: Pastor Igor helps his beautiful little daughters “learn to paint” with our team.

District Superintendent Pastor Damasio & Missionary/Pastor Igor

Team prepares to scrape, sand & paint…With Brother Ron ready to climb the ladder.

Church leaders, Pastor/Missionary Igor, DS Demasio, & the church had planned on our team scraping & sanding some of the structure, but were utterly amazed that our God enabled the team to scrape, sand, AND paint this huge structure!  In our “spare” time, we were privileged to minister at a Venezuelan Refugee Camp, an Indigenous Camp, and worship with a Haitian Refugee Church…Praise the Lord!
Because we were in Manaus, not on the boat, we were privileged to attend Wednesday night prayer group service and Sunday night Celebration service with our DS preaching & Pastor Igor translating.
OUR PLANS WERE CHANGED, BUT GOD’S PLANS ARE ALWAYS PERFECT11
PS:  we even got to take a Boat Ride on the Amazon (speed boat that could maneuver in more shallow water), see rare pink dolphins, eat lunch on a floating island, have pix taken with jungle animals…and YES, Laura Dockery EVEN got to fish off the dock (instead of off the Gospel Boat…and she caught TWO piranhas!

We’ve been amazed by your messages, reporting that you’re praying for needs all over the Southeast, and around the world. Please pray for:

EmojiE TN W&W Team > Amazon District, Brazil
E TN W&W Team will leave Monday afternoon, fly all night, change to Brazilian airliner and fly 3 more hours & land in  the Amazon Region of Brazil Tuesday.  They  will be carrying a revival size tent, called “The Jesus Film ARC.”  It will be the last such tent to be delivered anywhere in the world.  Each team member will be responsible for a military duffle bag with parts of the tent, and weighing 40-50 pounds…we need your prayers to navigate the first part of the assignment-delivering the tent!  Then, the team will board the Gospel boat, on which we will sleep, eat, and travel to villages…God willing, if the river is high enough to navigate.  The team is also taking Jesus Film lessons, bracelets, soccer balls, and sharing the Gospel.  Team will also paint a parsonage on the Amazon River district.

Emoji  Nazarenes in the Middle East:
Our Nazarene pastor’s family in the city of Nazareth is having to run to shelters because he sees rockets flying over the city. They are all safe, but of course feel very anxious. Our pastor in Haifa has moved to Nazareth  because where the church is located there is no bomb shelter. Many of our church members in the north   of Israel, where we have home groups, have had to relocate to the center or the south of the country for their own safety because their homes are too close to the border with Lebanon.
As for our church in Lebanon, and specifically in the city of Beirut, they are doing their best to be good testimony for Christ. Israel has bombed several sites in Lebanon that belong to the terrorist groups. But our church members in the city of Lebanon are trying to share the gospel and show compassion to some of their refugees who are fleeing the south of Lebanon because of the escalating situation between Israel and Lebanon.

EmojiNew Ministry in Lenoir City

Today is a Great Day to Pray for a Missionary

The prayers of NMI leaders are powerful and effective; the Kingdom of God is advanced because of them. Thank you for praying for the lost and for those who are working to reach them. Missionaries need prayer every day for their work, health, and safety.

Serve Sunday…
What a Blessing to See Churches Serving together for their Communities and for Global Missions!
These teens loved being on the “Writing Cards to Missionaries Team”!

Serve Sunday was a huge success!  Real Life Community Church  gathered with Blackman Community Church for pancake breakfast cooked & served by pastors.  Then, after worshipping together…groups from both churches joined teams who visited in hospital patients with prayer and flowers…wrote/ addressed birthday/ anniversary/ Christmas cards to be sent to all our missionaries (mailing date needed is written on corner of envelope where international stamp will go)/ made over 100 Jesus Film evange-bracelets for district W&W team to deliver to kids in Brazil/ made highway bags for everyone to deliver as they go about their week/ made vinyl water proof mats for homeless persons/ kids colored pictures for shut-ins.
Try a “Serve Service” sometime…and get ready for blessings!

Urgent Prayer Request-Potential October Weather Emergency in Brazil
Our missionary on the Amazon District in Brazil, Rev. Igor Vale,  recently shared with Brazil W&W leadership team, via zoom:  It will be very hot and unusually dry in October, due to lack of rain recently.  This has been an unusually dry  stretch of weather.  That could possibly cause the river level to be unusually low, making it hard for the boat to navigate.  The Brazilian District Superintendent is going to tour the water ways prior to our arrival by smaller boat, to be sure all the river is clear and deep enough for navigation.  We would love to be able to minister in all four of the villages that we are to be visiting.  Team members are preparing lesson materials, gifts (like Jesus film bracelets, & a Jesus Film soccer balls for each village, delivered with  lots of love and prayers.  Two of the villages have many refugees from Venezuela.  Our team will eat, sleep, and travel up & down the Amazon River on the Gospel Boat.  PLEASE PRAY FOR RAIN, FOR HEALTH OF THE MISSIONARIES & THE TEAM (CARRYING 40-50  POUND BAGS CONTAINING THE JESUS FILM TENT)…AND GOD’S MESSAGE & BLESSING TO BE SHARED!

This will be an exciting, but physically and emotionally demanding trip. Team members will fly 20 hours, taking a big (HEAVY) revival style tent, for Jesus film showings, to Manaus, Brazil.  Then they will live on the Gospel  boat for six days as they minister to tribal people on the Amazon river.
PRAY FOR TEAM FROM E TN, & FOR THE GREAT TEAM IN BRAZIL:   Ron DeWitt, Mindy DeWitt, Rachel Reed, Laura Dockery, Kristie Greene, Scott & Debbie Blair, Loren & Alice Carey, Bill & Martha Dawson, and Jim & Teresa Hodge.

Newsletter – September 4, 2024

We were  greatly blessed by the presence of great NMI presidents at the August 24 Inspire meeting.  Thanks to those who were able to come!  For those who were there, and those who were unable to come, I have a helpful NMI activity  that we can still do together!

E TN NMI gifted each NMI President with a sturdy  tagboard calendar in  your convention packet,  and also gave this same calendar to  each  participant at the NMI breakout session.
The calendar had significant NMI dates on it. If you don’t have one of these calendars, you can download and print one using the attachments on this newsletter.

Attachments:   NMI Events    Missionary Addresses

SUGGESTION:  Use a colored pencil, crayon or marker to highlight all missionaries’ birthdays & anniversaries on the calendar.  Buy cards for all missionaries’ special  days, and buy a page of international stamps (10 stamps/page for $1.50/stamp).
Count back about 6 weeks before each birthday & anniversary, and make a note of that date…that’s when your card needs to be mailed!

Suggestion for Multi-generational fun activity:
Real Life Church has “Serve Sunday,” when all ages come together for worship/ fellowship/service….then,
Teens & young adults do service projects all over the community..
while children stay at the church for fellowship with senior adults & mission related project (making Jesus Film evange-bracelets to send with E TN team to Brazil).  Seniors use copies of mission calendars to address cards to be used for missionaries’ special days throughout the coming year.
*Extra fun…kids share their favorite stickers, which they’ve brought to put in cards for MKs-Jude, Kaitlyn & Levi Haun!
What a great conversation starter for senior adult/kid talk:
Tell me about this sticker….

IT WILL BE SUCH A BLESSING FOR OUR MISSIONARIES & MK’s  TO RECEIVE A SHOWER OF CARDS FROM E TN FOR THEIR SPECIAL DAYS
